Sometimes a small little indie can come out of nowhere and make you realize that you don’t always need robots or vampires that become Liberace stand ins when they step in the sun to be worth your time.
Sometimes all you need is story and a distinct sense of style.
That is exactly what the trailer for the upcoming film, What’s Up Lovely, does.
That sound you hear is the collective readership of this site scratching it’s head as to what this film is. Well, let me enlighten you all.
What’s Up Lovely is the newest film from indie director Gary King, and stars the stunning Jenn Dees. Shot on two Canon, consumer cameras and the D90, this film follows the tale of Luci, who after losing her job, she begins to go on journeys in the wee hours of the morning. One night, she is forced to come face to face with her inner demons, all to find a way back to her home.
Personally, I think this trailer looks stunning. It’s based on a concept by both the star, Dees, and the director King, and it is one of the better trailers I’ve seen in a long time. It’s in the same vein as the first trailer for The Girlfriend Experience, or even the trailer for Little Children, where in and of itself it could stand as it’s own piece of work. It’s poetic, visually arresting, and after seeing some of the other promotional material, I can’t help but be excited for this film.
I will bring you more on this film as it comes out.
In the dead of night, a recently unemployed insomniac wanders the streets of New York discovering a city beyond her wildest imagination.
Luci loses her job and times are tougher than ever. Unable to sleep, she begins an after-hours journey embarking on a series of strange encounters as she wanders the dark metropolis. During one unforgettable night, Luci comes face to face with her innermost fears and desires as she tries to find her way back home.
Based on a concept by Jenn Dees and Gary King, WHAT’S UP LOVELY is a drama about the struggle to survive the city while battling the enemy within ourselves.
