With the help of comics like Patton Oswalt, Greg Giraldo and Andrew Daly, Lewis Black will help you find the Root of All Evil.

Jeffery Ross: No Offense –

Watch out--the "meanest man in comedy" has a few unflattering things to say about New Jersey! Join insult comic and roast master Jeffrey Ross as he takes the stage in his first Comedy Central special, delivering an evening of scabrous jabs directed at the Garden State.

Our Take:
Are you as sick of Oprah as I am? Do you think she’s one of the most overrated people in the entire history of the planet? Do you think she’s the Root Of All Evil? Lewis Black and company do and they take it out in the courtroom to explain to us why. That’s just one of the numerous examples (Weed Vs. Beer, YouTube Vs. Porn, Kim Jong-Il Vs. Tila Tequila) of the type of “court cases” we see throughout Season One of Lewis Black’s Root Of All Evil.

But maybe you get your fill of court “dramas” on daytime TV and your all court-ed out. Well, that’s okay too because we’ve got another option for you in the form of Jeffrey Ross: No Offense. Ross, best known as being both a punching bag and contender on all of the Comedy Central Roast specials gets his own special to contend in and entertain us with.

Lewis Black is a much funnier individual than Jeffrey Ross, so therefore Root Of All Evil should be the better of the two discs. Ah, but not so fast. You see, although Root Of All Evil is hosted and judged by Black, he really isn’t the star of the show – the “lawyers” are (the lawyers consisting of comedians Andrew Daly, Greg Giraldo, Andy Kindler, Patton Oswalt and more). So it is that Ross’s No Offense manages to rise up in prominence and take the number one spot between the two discs.

Special features include:

Root Of All Evil -

* Post-Ruling Interviews with Lewis Black and the “Lawyers” (28 minutes)

* Your Day In Court: Tips from Judge Black (3 minutes)

* Meet The Lawyers: Behind The Scenes with Judge Black (3 minutes)

* Meet Judge Black (1 minute)

* Politibits (1 minute) – A bit of political information.

No Offense -

* Commentary by Jeffrey Ross and Jay Karas.

* The Roastmaster Comes Homes: Documentary Feature (13 minutes) – The words “documentary feature” got me thinking this was going to be a feature length documentary… alas, I’ve been bamboozled.

Both of these comedians deliver nice products in the form of Root Of All Evil and No Offense. Ross’s special is just that, a comedy special, so be wary of that n terms of content and running time when you purchase it. And although Black’s show feels like a bit of a mash-up between Penn and Teller’s Bullshit! and Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, it’s still an entertaining show that retains it’s fresh vibe from start to finish.
